Jakob’s Webnet stainless steel mesh used as railings on The High Line in New York | Architecture & Design

Jakob’s Webnet stainless steel mesh from Tensile was used for the railings on the prestigious ‘The High Line’ project in New York.

The High Line Project involved the transformation of an elevated train line on the West Side of Manhattan that had been out of service for more than 30 years, into a public park. The design team consisted of landscape architects James Corner Field Operations and architecture firm Diller Scofidio + Renfro. Galvanized Wire Mesh

Jakob’s Webnet was used for the railings and railing fillings on The Highline Project. The architects were able to achieve a timeless design with Webnet’s filigree structure making it nearly transparent depending on the lighting and viewing angle. The use of Webnet stainless steel mesh also helped to reduce costs as well as ensure a sustainable solution with its high resistance to environmental influences making it maintenance-free.

Webnet stainless steel mesh is made from high corrosion-resistant AISI 316 steel, which can also be coated in all RAL and NCS colours. Thanks to the interplay between functionality and aesthetic restraint, it is suited for nearly every design concept. For example, the mesh can be stretched between steel pipes, rods and cables or can completely replace railings in staircases when stretched to its full length.

Webnet stainless steel mesh is available in net lengths of up to 100m, and is typically custom-produced to specific application requirements. The custom-fit solution simplifies on-site installation with the net segments fitting precisely.
