Ralph Albrecht was presented with five medals near the end of a Wreaths Across America ceremony at the Fox Hill Cemetery in Billerica.

The medals Albrecht received were the National Defense Service Medal, Army Good Conduct Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal and the Purple Heart.

Donnie Jarvis, Billerica's director of veterans' services, said due to the injuries Albrecht sustained in Vietnam over 50 years ago, he was unable to carry his gear back home and his medals did not make it back with him.

On Saturday, Albrecht received the five medals from five different people, including one of his family members, as the crowd that had gathered for the Wreaths Across America event applauded him for his service.
