Singtel and SAP have inked a deal to develop an Intelligent Edge Aggregator (IEA) solution that promises to add greater cloud and computing capabilities to a 5G network and enable businesses to better tap on the mobile technology.

This marks the first time that SAP in Asia-Pacific is collaborating with a telecom operator to offer 5G-enabled edge computing solutions to customers using the SAP Business Technology Platform (SAP BTP).
The IEA solution will be built on Singtel’s Paragon platform – an all-in-one orchestration platform for 5G network, edge computing and cloud services – and supported by its 5G networks and multi-edge computing solutions.
With the addition of SAP BTP, enterprise customers can quickly access SAP software and integrate it with their back-end processes on the cloud server edge for real-time business insights.
“Through this collaboration, we can address the increasingly complex needs of enterprises, such as applications for computer vision and workplace safety,” said Dennis Wong, vice-president of enterprise 5G and platforms at Singtel.
“This is part of our ongoing strategy to help enterprises exploit the capabilities of 5G, through Paragon, to drive innovation and business growth,” he added.
Singtel, Singapore’s largest telco, has been pushing for more capabilities on the edge as it seeks to attract businesses to make use of the lower latency and higher bandwidth that 5G provides.
After launching its Paragon platform last year with promises of easier onboarding of 5G edge capabilities for businesses, it partnered Microsoft in May this year to deliver Azure public multi-access edge compute (MEC) services to businesses.
