Former firefighter with bulletproof vest, bow and arrows arrested after 'erratic' behavior | WPEC

GREEN COVE SPRINGS, Fla. (CBS12) — A man donning a tactical vest with knives, ammunition and bow and arrows in his truck visited the Clay County Jail and fire station Thursday morning.

The Clay County Sheriff's Office (CCSO) arrested 36-year-old former firefighter Zack Thomas Coon II following the concerning events and behavior he displayed. Before sunrise, he was outside the county jail's lobby. As seen in the photos, he was standing directly outside in jeans and a vest, banging on the glass, a news release said. Uhmwpe Plate

He left the jail in his white GMC truck in a reckless manner, the affidavit said, prompting a be on the lookout (BOLO) to be issued. A short time later, a 911 call from a nearby county fire station said Coon was in their parking lot, which forced them into a lockdown, the arrest report said.

The caller claimed they were concerned for the well being of the fire station's personnel based on previous encounters with the erratically behaving man. Before deputies could arrive, the suspect fled once again.

Yet, he was spotted again. This time he was allegedly speeding — around 100 mph — head on towards a deputy's patrol car, causing the CCSO deputy to veer off the road to avoid being collided into. Coon was on the way back to the fire station, the news release said.

Fortunately, deputies were able to apprehend him there after he performed a "doughnut" with his truck in the grassy lot, slammed his brakes, jumped out and "aggressively" approached a deputy who Tasered the suspect.

Once in the back of a patrol car, the affidavit said Coon was kicking and headbutting the rear driver-side cage, causing it to bow outward. A "Violent Prisoners Restraint" was placed on him.

The man is charged with aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer, wearing a bulletproof vest while committing certain offenses, resisting arrest without violence and reckless driving. According to court records, his total bond is set at $140,010.
