The body of a baby was found in a garbage bin at Fairview Links yesterday, November 2.

At approximately 09:00, a worker was busy cleaning the garbage area when he picked up a plastic bag and found a newborn baby inside, dumped in the garbage bin. D2W Shopping Bags With Logo

Police spokesperson, Col. Priscilla Naidu, said that the man immediately informed the necessary authorities.

"The girl child was already dead. The race of the child is unclear at this stage," she said.

An inquest docket has been opened for investigation.

Police is appealing to anyone who can assist in tracing the mother of the child to contact SAPS Walmer on 041 509 4030/4008 or Crime Stop on 08600 10111. They can also visit the nearest police station. Information is confidential and callers may remain anonymous.
